Principal or Senior Electrical Engineer

Offshore Wind & Renewable Energy

 

Job grade: Full time Principal or Senior Engineer Application period: Until 30 November 2018

Xero Energy is looking to grow our team based in Glasgow, UK and we have an exciting opportunity for a new principal or senior engineer concentrating on offshore wind energy projects. Xero Energy, which has recently become part of the ITPEnergised team, is a focused and well-respected group of experts providing consultancy services at the forefront of grid connection for renewable energy and low carbon projects. Roles and responsibilities

We are looking for a candidate that can demonstrate they are able to fulfil the following role:

  • Management / development of scopes of work and budgets for complex projects.
  • Management and liaison with offshore wind clients and specialty subcontractors.
  • Lead certain areas of sales, business development and company development in the offshore energy area.
  • Lead and manage technical work packages covering:
    • Grid connection design
    • Electrical system engineering and design
    • Power systems analysis and system studies
    • Technical due diligence
    • Grid code advice
    • Owner’s engineer and other activities
  • Assist with workload planning as needed.
  • Supervision and professional development of graduate staff as needed.

Skills and experience

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Significant experience with offshore wind electrical systems and plant.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical theory, power systems concepts, plant, design and construction.
  • Good awareness of the renewable energy industry and regulatory environment.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English, good communication skills and an eye for detail.
  • Good computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a relevant postgraduate degree.
  • Chartered Engineer professional registration.
  • Minimum 5-10 years relevant experience with power system engineering and renewable energy.

Salary will be competitive and set depending on qualifications and experience.

    Assist with workload planning.
  • Supervision and professional development of staff.
  • Lead certain areas of sales, business development and company development.
  • Lead and manage technical work packages covering grid connection and electrical system engineering and design. Work packages will include pre-FEED design, power systems analysis, technical due diligence, grid code compliance, owner’s engineer and other activities.
  • Lead and manage commercial work packages covering grid connection agreements and commercial matters. Work packages will include grid connection strategy, connection offers and agreements, costs and underwriting analyses, constraint assessments, and operational charging and benefits reviews.
  • Lead and manage work relating to network codes, policy and regulation.

Skills

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Familiarity with electrical theory, power systems concepts, plant, design and construction.
  • Familiarity with the renewable energy industry and regulatory environment.
